Candlestick Charts

[Go Back]

Candlestick charts provide a complete picture of what has occurred to a security by displaying the opening, high, low and closing prices for a security (for intraday charts, the closing price is taken to be the last price at which a transaction in a security took place).

Candlestick Chart

  • The box that makes up the difference between the opening and the closing price is called the body of the candlestick.

  • A solid candlestick means that the closing price was lower than the opening price.

  • A hollow candlestick means that the closing price was higher than the opening price.

  • The vertical line above the body of the candlestick shows the high price.

  • The vertical line below the body of the candlestick shows the low price.
