Candlestick Charts
[Go Back]
Candlestick charts provide a complete picture of what has occurred to a security by displaying the opening, high, low and closing prices for a security (for intraday charts, the closing price is taken to be the last price at which a transaction in a security took place).

The box that makes up the difference between the opening and the closing price is called the body of the candlestick.
A solid candlestick means that the closing price was lower than the opening price.
A hollow candlestick means that the closing price was higher than the opening price.
The vertical line above the body of the candlestick shows the high price.
The vertical line below the body of the candlestick shows the low price.
