Relative Strength Index

[Go Back]

Description

The Relative Strength Index is a front-weighted price-velocity ratio that can vary in value between zero and one hundred. A Relative Strength Index above fifty signals a bullish market trend and an RSI below fifty signals a bearish trend.

Calculation of the RSI involves comparing the exponentially smoothed moving averages of gains and losses over a term that you specify. You will need to experiment to find the optimum term for each security.
